Celebrating Music Teachers (Part 3) & Art That Blows Update

We'd like to introduce you to another of our Pandemic Music Teacher contest winners. This is Rebecca Killen and we think that her picture radiates warmth and happiness. Qualities that make great music teachers even better! Rebecca was nominated by Sarah Niileksela, Music Therapist at Sunflower Music in Lawrence, Kansas. This is what Sarah told us about Rebecca:

"I'd like to nominate Rebecca Killen, elementary music teacher at Eudora Elementary School in Eudora, KS. She really embraced virtual learning as much as anyone could and did so many fun things for her students. She shared resources with me as well from what she compiled for their choice board for specials. In particular, I was impressed that she had a variety of zoom meet ups for different kids - anything from make your own shaker and have a shaker dance party, ukulele play along, and a meet & greet. Earlier this year, Rebecca also had helped write a grant to get ukuleles for all her students. Instead of ordering online through Amazon, she went through our local music store, Mass St Music to order them, which I thought was awesome."

Rebecca worked with us to design her necklace, which features a bassoon key and a ukulele wood heart. She was a pleasure to work with and we are so inspired by her passion for teaching and engaging her students.

We want to send out a huge THANK YOU to all the music teachers out there who go above and beyond every day. You are all rock stars!

If you haven't heard yet, the Band of Angels Art That Blows event is going virtual this year. It will take place live on Facebook on October 1st. Click here for full details of this awesome event. Kansas City artists create art from retired instruments that will blow your mind. We have donated 28 pieces of jewelry and and two pieces of gorgeous art that will be available to be bid on. This is a chance for our out of town friends to see the gorgeous creations available at Art That Blows. At the very least the artistry will inspire you.
